The agent is installed on the local device and it runs as a local OS service at a regular scheduled interval (usually every 7 days).
Lansweeper Agent (LsAgent) – this is what we have asked staff to install on their self-managed desktop & laptop computers. Some schools will have a border firewall that would not allow these scanning attempts to reach the endpoints, so this method is not useful at all to collect data from network segments that ITS do not currently manage. However, this mode has limitations on how far it can reach as it relies on particular network ports being open on the target network/device and requires a local device account to login to perform the full scan. 
This mode is currently being used to scan mainly managed ITS estate (servers, desktop and laptops).
Scanning Mode – in this mode, the device scanning process is initiated from our Lansweeper server hosted in the QM datacentre at Mile End.
